Crossing the Line

Ahmy and Binny are neighbors, yet a world of differences separates them. They are caught in the middle of a deep-rooted war in the Middle East. Yet when Ahmy crosses the wall that separates their villages, he and Binny come to realize that they may not be so different after all. But in the midst of suicide bombings and funerals of children, will they be seen as peaceful heroes by their people-or traitors?

"You will be killed," Binnv said, not sure where all this was going. Madness was happening right outside the walls, but time stood still for the moment. Binnv was looking Ahmy up and down, taking in how he y stood, his dark hair, his clothes and worn sandals. He was poor. He had not had many good meals.
"Ahmy! Ahmy! What are you doing?"
"I know," Ahmy said back. Like Binny, Ahmy was ignoring his friends. He was staring at Binny with great interest.
The sounds from outside were intensifying, and Ahmy's friends were near panic.
"Ahmy, we have to leave. We will be seen. We have to get out of here. What are you doing? Are you coming?" It was a final plea from his friends.
"You will be killed," Binny said again disturbingly calm. Ahmy nodded again.
