The Code |
|
| A story about tolerance and acceptance of different races, The Code is about a young boy living in the inner city of Washington, D.C., who witnesses a terrible crime, becomes involved in street gang activity (and racism), ponders the messages of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X as well as education, and is forced to make the right choice for himself and his family. By all appearances, this is a book about a boy escaping gang life. In actuality, it is a book about friendship, family, trust, and self-worth. The Code is fast-paced and full of adventure, specifically targeting at-risk readers between the ages of ten to fifteen. This book, given a nod from the Coretta Scott King Award, has been heralded by educators as a great learning tool for hi/lo and at-risk readers. For a copy contact: |
